Effect of Welding Separation Characteristics on the Cyclic Behavior of Steel Plate Shear Walls

Currently, the steel plate shear wall (SPSW) is commonly used in high-rise buildings as a lateral load-resisting system due to its several advantages such lightweight and high ductility strength. The SPSW consists of two main parts, i.e., boundary frame infill plate, which are connected by welding. objective this work study effect weld separation on seismic behavior SPSWs. A numerical method was proposed have comprehensive comparison behaviors different characteristics. model validated using previously published experimental works. Key parameters, load-carrying capacity, stiffness, energy-dissipation were discussed extensively. unstiffened (USPSW) more sensitive plate–beam than plate–column one, especially corner separation.
